How to choose a pre-owned Audemars Piguet

A pre-owned Audemars Piguet means, above all, access to the Royal Oak, the absolute icon of sporty-chic watchmaking, without the boutique waiting years. At Francine Joaillerie, every second-hand AP is authenticated and checked by our watchmakers: case and integrated bracelet condition, movement, numbers and finishing consistency.

Audemars Piguet, the independent of Le Brassus

Founded in 1875 in Le Brassus, in the Vallée de Joux, Audemars Piguet is one of the rare great manufactures still owned by its founding families. In 1972 it upended watchmaking with the Royal Oak, the first luxury sports watch in steel, designed by Gérald Genta. Fifty years on, demand still far outstrips supply, making pre-owned the most direct road to the octagonal bezel.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the Royal Oak so sought-after?

Because it invented a category, the luxury steel sports watch, and its production remains limited in the face of worldwide demand. Steel references in particular carry long boutique waits.

How do you authenticate a Royal Oak?

Perfect alignment of the bezel screws, regularity of the dial tapisserie, link finishing, engravings and numbers: our watchmakers check every detail before sale, warranty and certificate included.

Which Royal Oak size should I choose?

41 mm suits assertive wrists, 39 mm is the historic "Jumbo" format, and 37 mm and below fits slimmer wrists. Trying it on in our Saint-Tropez boutique remains the best judge.
