Frédéric Boucheron opened his house in 1858 and moved in 1893 to 26 Place Vendôme, the first jeweller to choose this address, which was to become the centre of gravity of high jewellery worldwide. He is said to have chosen this number because it was the sunniest on the square, and therefore the one where diamonds sparkled best.
